Build Focused Skills for Working With Animals
From understanding canine body language to planning enrichment and improving daily care—develop your knowledge through focused, practical study.
Our short courses support aspiring and practising animal-care professionals. Choose a subject that interests you, strengthens your current role or complements your existing studies. Each course contains six lessons within one module, with an estimated total learning time of 10 hours.
Canine Body Language: Observe, Understand and Respond
Learn to observe posture, movement and facial expression while considering the whole dog, its health and the situation. Develop clearer records, more cautious interpretations and appropriate responses.
Best if you want to strengthen observation and communication skills for training, grooming, walking, boarding, daycare or welfare work.
Puppy Socialisation: Safe, Positive Foundations
Explore early development, suitable introductions and the balance between positive experiences and health protection. Learn to prepare gradual plans, recognise difficulty and give clear caregiver instructions.
Best if you work with puppies or want introductory knowledge relevant to training, breeding, fostering or puppy care.
Canine Enrichment: Plan, Provide and Evaluate
Learn to select suitable opportunities for sniffing, searching, feeding, chewing, exploration, learning and social contact. Prepare individual plans with practical instructions, safety precautions and review criteria.
Best if you recommend or provide enrichment as a trainer, behaviourist, walker, pet sitter, care worker or welfare professional.
Equine Enrichment: Plan, Provide and Evaluate
Explore enrichment through the horse’s daily management, including forage, companionship, movement, choice and suitable activities. Learn to prepare realistic recommendations that respect health needs and professional instructions.
Best if you work in equine care, yard management, training or welfare and want a structured approach to enrichment planning.
Welfare-Led Kennel and Daycare Management
Develop an individual approach to admission, accommodation, daily routines, rest, enrichment and social arrangements. Explore health monitoring, staff handovers and care reviews that support consistent management.
Best if you work in, manage or plan to operate a kennel or daycare facility, or advise on boarding and daycare arrangements.
Choose Your Starting Point
These are subject groupings, not compulsory stages. Start with the course most relevant to your interests or responsibilities, and add another when it supports your learning goals.
Each course includes written learning activities and assessment. Successful completion leads to a Pet Sense College certificate of completion. Short courses complement broader professional education; they do not replace practical training or qualify learners to diagnose conditions or independently manage complex cases.
